1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
Um, sadly, just 1: the highlights of Urbana 2003 DVD. But this doesn't mean I don't watch films, it just means I smooch them off people :D
2) The last film I bought:
Does the Linkin' Park Live in Dallas DVD count as a "film"? I bought it because it came in a CD/DVD combo, but since I didn't own a DVD player (this was before I got my DVD-playing laptop), I eBay-ed the DVD.
3) The last film I watched:
At home, Napoleon Dynamite.
In the movie theater, Hitch.
4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
i. LotR (mean a lot)—they count as one! The translation from book to movie was amazingly done, and the movies themselves, stand-alone, have a lot of merit.
ii. A Knight's Tale (watch a lot)—one of my cousin's favorite movies. We watched this so many times that there was this once we watched it on Spanish TV...and understood everything anyway because we practically memorized the script. And speaking of script, I got my cousin the full script of the movie for Christmas 2004.
iii. Hotel Rwanda (mean a lot)—watched it this past winter. Very gripping. Very well done.
iv. Disney's Beauty and the Beast (watch a lot and mean a lot)—my favorite Disney animated film. I've seen both the English and the French (dubbed) version, though not the Broadway show. Many films compete for a close second, but old and new films come and go and this remains at the top of my list.
v. Battle of Algiers (mean a lot)—maybe it's because I'm writing a paper on French colonialism in north Africa, but this movie jumped to mind. It documents Algeria's bloody struggle for independence. I saw it twice, both times with the Near Eastern Studies department at my undergraduate institution. Not an easy film to watch.
