Course: Problems & Methods of Middle Eastern Studies
Goal: Critical, well-thought-out Any paper, 15-20 pages, double-spaced.
Goal for tomorrow: Read the two responses to Bloch's "Cultural Critique of Trends." Review the 6 articles from the Gender week that I'll be using for the paper. Start writing the paper for real.
Progress: 9 articles read (15, if I count the 6 class readings, though much refreshing needs to be done). (still) 1 page written.

GENDER ANALYSIS AND SOCIAL THEORY: BUILDING ON RUTH BLOCH'S PROPOSALS

Purpose: To elaborate on Bloch's call for feminist theory to be "more attentive to culture" by exploring: 1. desire and/or pleasure, and 2. "whether it focuses primarily on cultural, material, political, and/or psychological phenomena." (p. 101)

Sandra Harding, Debating Gender, Debating Sexuality, Nikki R. Keddie, ed., 1996.

Thesis: "to develop theoretical frameworks that reject these distorting choices" between what Harding sees as superficial divisions that force scholars to choose between "accounting for gender, race, class or sexuality." (p. 114)

My Journalism Article!

I finally got the editing and comments back from my reporting class' professor! If anyone's a good editor, HE is. The best part is that he really likes the article. *grins like a fool* He says no need for further reporting. *sighs breath of relieve*

With all the talks about multiethnicity and the public school system, blah, blah, blah...it was writing down my research that was the most difficult. Such complicated intra-race issues. Gotta love New York City :p

What a ride...I'm grateful for the experience :)
