Controversy over this picture:

It's a very informative article. Questions raised include: how the photo was obtained in the first place, who took the picture, how much protection a publication (in this case, a tabloid) has under freedom of speech, what the sociopolitical implications are after publishing this photo, and what kind of responses Iraqis have to this photo.
Unfortunately for me, my interest for the overall article was dampened by a quote from dear Mr. George W. Bush. So maybe he really has good things to say behind all his words, maybe he is not afraid to voice his convictions... but all I'm asking is that he would phrase his words a bit more, shall we say, carefully/thoughtfully/intelligently? Is this too much to ask? The quote as it is right now is a flashing "shoot me" neon sign (figuratively, of course) for people to jump on this quote and cry: "Foul!"
Students and profs from my MES department sure would.
But then again, my department does this to dear old Mr. Bernard Lewis, and Lewis is not an unknown name to the White House...
( If you're interested, the quote... )
