I came across this post (http://cluegirl.livejournal.com/944322.html) that cluegirl posted just yesterday -- seems like she got the same email as the one I received via the MoveOn.org listserv. It definitely shows from her massive linkage at the end that she's done her research; my own poking around seems to confirm that Avaaz is a legitimate organization as well.
