So, election day. Michael Bloomberg won a second term as mayor of New York City. And closer to home for me, Jon Corzine won as the NJ governor, ~ 53% to Doug Forrester's 43% vote.

I was listening to victory speeches and videos, and the word that jumped to mind is: pompous. I'm glad the winners won, and I'm sad that the losers lost. Celebrations are great, but I couldn't help thinking what all the candidates who didn't win felt like tonight.

This is the time of the year when I wonder if I'm studying in the wrong department. I mean, I follow campaign news sporadically and all, but when it comes to election day/night, I just don't care about politics and issues and all the extraneous stuff.

I want to go up to those who didn't win (whether they were good or bad candidates, qualified or should never have run) and just sit by them, give them hugs, and hope that they can find the spark of hope again to go on doing whatever they need to until the next election, if they'll run again.

Yeah, I know that most of the losers are probably mega-millionaires and can go on with life plenty well. But filthy-rich and questionable-conduct people need hugs too.
