It's a Miracle!
May. 7th, 2005 11:02 amI own a USB flash drive, Lexar model JDS128-04-500E for those of you who are technological geeks. It's been a handy device for me to transport files from my computer to the school's computer lab, where I can print, and print for free.
A while back, I accidentally left my USB flash drive in my jeans pocket and it went through a traumatic experience of being drenched and tumbled during the laundry process. When I managed to fish it out from the washer, it was as dead as any electronics that just got attacked by a water-spewing machine would be. I tried plugging it into my computer various ways: slowly, forcefully, in and out in quick successions... nothing.
It's been a few weeks and I was just about to place a bid on eBay for a new USB flash drive. For some reason, I thought: what the heck, I'll give it another try.
It's a miracle! First try, no special maneuvering. I simply plugged it in, and my computer recognized it right away! My heart leaped for joy when the "New hardware is now ready to use" message showed up on my screen. Still have no idea why and how it worked though...
Maybe it's a ploy to get me to fall deeper in love with my computer so I can spend this weekend churning out words with it. Or a painful reminder that, now that "I can't print" is no longer an excuse, I really have to produce some final papers.
