(Yes, I'm American too and I know there are Americans not in the U.S. at the moment. But the banner can only hold so many words ^_^;;)

And because I associate July 4 with picnics and grilled mystery meats:
Japanese man eats record 53 3/4 hotdogs

That guy wins every year. I wonder how he does that???

haha I know! this guy is a legend. I live right by there and was craving some nathans cheese fries but my dad told me how crazy it would be today. It's insane. 53 hot dogs in 12 minutes????

There really must be a technique on how to gobble how dogs like they're water.

I have no idea. But he's become some sort of a celebrity. I'd be disappointed if the other guy beat him this year (I heard the race was close). Maybe now he feels like he has a reputation to keep?

I bet eating so many hot dogs can't be good for you ;p

Kobayashi!!!! Haha yeah but he has apparently bulked up since his first win a couple years ago. They showed him back then and he was the skinniest Asian ever!! Now, he's got some muscle (all those carbs have to go SOMEWHERE)!!

Yeah but according to my bro, the runner-up, who had the unassuming name of Chestnut, was literally INHALING hot dogs. It was a close finish, and I think Kobayashi has a real competitor! Which, in itself, is huge!! Dude, can't believe a girl was in the contest. Amazing.

Yup, I heard the runner up was really close this year, which is good I guess. It must be lonely being the only one who could eat so many hot dogs ;)

The girl is Sonya "Black Widow" (I think they call all Asian female competitors that, e.g. Jeanette Lee in pool) Thomas... she is one of, if not the top American competitive eater. She has a website that I am sure you can google.

Personally, competitive eating grosses me out. I recently realized that gluttony is the Deadly Sin I despise the most. But I wish Kobayashi and Thomas the best.. I'm glad they aren't, like, fatties (can't think of a better way to say that), and I hope they aren't suffering from some heretofore-unknown physical ailments.

lol, I can rarely eat more than 2 hot dogs because the meat is just so... processed. Eating lots of them is such a special talent ;)
