Greetings & Starbucks

Today I spent something like two hours sitting in a Starbucks in the Lower East Side. As I was chatting away, I noticed how nice it was for the baristas at that store to not have to work non-stop trying to cater to an endless line going out the door. Three partners were working on the floor, and they had time to clean the mats, mop the floor, prepare all the backups for frappucino bases, wipe down the counters, and serve the occasional customer who would come in and order a simple bar drink like a latte.
It boggles my mind that working at Starbucks ≠ crazy/get snapped at by impatient customers/running out of everything/garbage cans overflowing/sugar and milk splattered everywhere/no soap or toilet paper in the bathrooms/no time for breaks/etc.
And the thing is? I love the busyness at my store, even if it's frustrating at times. Speaking of which, it's bed time for me if I want to be on time to open tomorrow...

I think it's really cool, because it contributes to everyone feeling a sense of investment in the job they do.
