Today I spent something like two hours sitting in a Starbucks in the Lower East Side. As I was chatting away, I noticed how nice it was for the baristas at that store to not have to work non-stop trying to cater to an endless line going out the door. Three partners were working on the floor, and they had time to clean the mats, mop the floor, prepare all the backups for frappucino bases, wipe down the counters, and serve the occasional customer who would come in and order a simple bar drink like a latte.

It boggles my mind that working at Starbucks ≠ crazy/get snapped at by impatient customers/running out of everything/garbage cans overflowing/sugar and milk splattered everywhere/no soap or toilet paper in the bathrooms/no time for breaks/etc.

And the thing is? I love the busyness at my store, even if it's frustrating at times. Speaking of which, it's bed time for me if I want to be on time to open tomorrow...

I love how Starbucks employees are called "partners." I wish every company did that. seattle hippies

I love busy days at my store too. Slow days are boring and they drag by.

Yeah, it's like a giant company of stockholders... even if the money I put away can only buy me shares I can count with one hand.

I like busy days too. But if it's a long eight-hour shift, then I'm usually ready to collapse by the last hour of it.

laaaate reply...

Yeah, Starbucks employees call each other partners, regardless of whether it's referring to employees of the same rank or from a barista to the District Manager. I think it's really cool, because it contributes to everyone feeling a sense of investment in the job they do.

Hehe, I did get sleep, and then proceeded to neglect my journal for the past couple of weeks -_-;;

Time for me to sleep again... but I hope you're doing well!

Thanks! I'm okay, have an annoying sore throat, but otherwise good. I've been neglecting my journal for awhile, too.

Hope you are well; have good sleeping!
